really hitting this realization of like. it actually sucks that it's considered bad game design to, purposefully or not, give a player rough/negative feelings

if there's any argument at all against games being art it's the fact that we've all decided it's bad game design to take something away from a player, or to make them wait, or to fail to reward them for their efforts, or to let them get confused or lost or stuck

I was talking w/ @watermelynn-witch about this and she said "saying the purpose of a game is to be fun is like saying the purpose of a painting is to invoke joy"

I value fun really highly and I don't think fun is anti-art but. games can and should be allowed to be more things than just that
